I’ve been making regular green smoothies of late in a bid to be more healthy. My standard smoothie contains a cup of orange juice, a cup of water, a piece of cut up fruit, and a handful of either baby spinach leaves or salad mix. Toss them all in the blender, and you have a delicious and healthy “green drink”.
Recently, I discovered ‘Chard Leaves’ whilst visiting the Wholesale Market. Chard belongs to the same family as beets and spinach and shares a similar taste profile. It has the bitterness of beet greens and the slightly salty flavour of spinach leaves. ‘Chard Leaves’ are now available in our online store.
When making green smoothies, it’s important to rotate the type of greens used, in order to avoid any over-accumulation in the body of the different naturally-occuring alkaloids contained in each variety. For more information on this point refer to Victoria Boutenko’s book Green for Life
