Remember years ago, when we’d see citrus growers ripping out their orange trees on the evening news? Guess what, now there is a shortage of oranges, and the best of what is available is being shipped overseas for export. I’m having trouble getting 3kg bags of oranges, but can still get the loose ones, so if you want the equivalent of a 3kg bag, then order 12.
Unfortunately, there are still no local cherries worth buying. Good ones are still about $100 for a 5kg box, and bad ones are not worth eating (too sour, not enough sun during spring). The watermelon has been very good, and the stone fruits (particularly the yellow nectarines) are eating really well.
Just two more delivery weeks to go, before our annual summer shutdown.
Eat local produce, and have a great week!
