News & Updates
William Pears are available; Clingstone Peaches not far away
New season William Pears are available again, they change colour from green to yellow when ripening, which can occur quickly when it’s hot.
Clingstone peaches should be available very soon, they are the big yellow ones.
Local strawberries are on, but I’m not that confident about quality. Will get the best that I can, my advice is to eat them within a day or so, don’t expect them to last too long.
Aussie Garlic now in season; Beans back on
Aussie garlic is a bit late this year, usually the season starts in December, but this year, the grower I use has only just started sending to the market.
There’s no ginger at the moment, it’s a transition period between the old season (which is very expensive), and the new season ginger, which is only just coming to market. I hope to have it the week after this one.
Beans are available again, there have been a few supply issues caused by the recent disruptive weather.
Still plenty of fruit around, just a reminder that there are no new season apples for a few more weeks. The old season Pink Lady and Granny Smith varieties are still pretty good, new season Royal Gala should be available by the end of the month.
Deliveries begin this week, time to fill up the fruit bowl
Here we go again, Micky Booth deliveries for 2020 start again this week!
Time to fill up the fruit bowl with fresh, seasonal fruits.
I gave my suppliers a call a couple of days ago to check in with what’s around.
Still plenty of stone fruits (peaches, plums and nectarines) green grapes, cantaloupe, pineapple and passion fruit.
Apples are very late in the season, so only offering the pink lady and granny smith varieties. No pears until the William variety starts, which should be in a couple of weeks.
Pumpkin and beans are very expensive, so not offering beans, and only offering Butternut pumpkin.
Looking forward to delivering fresh seasonal fruits and veggies to your door throughout the coming year.
Cherries & Grapes available this week; Last delivery for Thursday & Friday customers
My cherry grower is sending cherries to the market for the first time this Monday (16th December). It’s been a difficult time for them due to a number of weather incidents. They will be available in 350g tubs.
Australian grown green seedless grapes are also available in 500g and 1kg bags.
This week is the last week of deliveries for Thursday and Friday customers.
Regular Tuesday and Wednesday customers will get their usual delivery this week, and next week their delivery day will be brought forward by a day (Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th December).
Thanks again for everyone’s continual support throughout the year, stay safe during the Festive Season, and I look forward to be back delivering after the Australia Day long weekend in 2020.
Christmas delivery schedule; Passion Fruit available; Still no cherries
There are two more full shopping weeks until Christmas.
Christmas on a Wednesday does create a few logistical challenges, so this is how we are going to do it this year:
Regular Thursday and Friday customers will receive their last delivery on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th December.
Regular Tuesday and Wednesday customers will have their delivery day brought forward a day and will receive a delivery on Monday 23rd (for Tuesday customers), and Tuesday 24th (for Wednesday customers).
I’m also looking at offering a Monday afternoon pick up service (click and collect) at our Ringwood warehouse for any Thursday and Friday customers interested in that option.
Call or send me a text if you are interested in picking up an order on Monday 23rd December.
Passion Fruit are back in season, just in time for the Festive Season.
Sorry, but still no cherries this week, fingers crossed for the following week.
The colder weather has delayed the season, and reduced the quality of the cherry.
Yellow Peaches; Honeydew Melon; Cherries very soon
Just spoke to my cherry grower, hope to have them available in 500g punnets from next week.
If you need to make a fruit salad, there are plenty of fruits around for that: Watermelon, Pineapple, Cantaloupe, Honeydew Melon, Strawberries and Blueberries.
Will have yellow peaches this week, along with the apricots that started last week, and the yellow and white nectarines that have been available since the start of November.
Just a reminder that there is no such thing as a new season apple at this time of the year.
All varieties have been in storage for at least six months, so the quality can vary from week to week.
Better to stick with the seasonal fruits if you can.
New season apricots available; Strawberries should be as good as last week
New season apricots are available this week in 500 gram portions (about 5 or 6 apricots, depending on their size).
Because the weather has been quite consistent, the local strawberries should be as good as last week’s batch.
Mandarins have finally finished, they have been around since late May, so time to give them a break.
There are no Australian grapes yet, any grapes you see in stores are imported from the U.S.A.
As soon as they are available, I’ll start supplying them again.
Local strawberries available again 3 punnets for $8.90
My local strawberry grower informs me that as the weather has settled down, the strawberries will be very good; 3 punnets for $8.90; 2 punnets for $6.80.
Apparently, a few of the blueberry growers were evacuated from their farms last week due to the fires in Northern New South Wales. They lost a couple of days picking, but sounds like that are back on their farms, and supply of blueberries hasn’t been affected too much.
Still no peaches, just white or yellow nectarines.
Last week for the mandarins, then that’s it until next May.
Mangoes & Nectarines (both yellow & white are available)
Mangoes from the Northern Territory (Katherine) are available this week, as are yellow and white nectarines.
I was planning on offering white peaches this week, but they were damaged by hail early last week.
The fluctuating weather has not been good for local strawberries.
My strawberry grower has advised me to give them a break this week, they may be available next week, depending on quality.
Watermelon is also back on, pity it’s not watermelon weather!
