There is a shortage of bananas at the market due to the effects of Cyclone Nerin which hit Far North Queensland in late February/early March of this year.

Banana supply has been very tight for about the past month, but it is expected to get worse. I usually pay between $20 and $30 for a box of bananas, but prices are expected to reach up to $70, possibly by next week.

Let’s hope that prices and supply don’t follow the pattern of what happened after Cyclone Larry in 2006, and Cyclone Yasi in 2011.

On a brighter note, Australian citrus in now in full swing. Navel oranges, imperial mandarins, ruby grapefruit, lemons and limes, are all in season now.

Good weather for soup making I would say!

Plenty of soup veggies to choose from: Celery, pumpkin, potato, leeks, parsnips, turnips, swede, carrots and parsley.

We also sell pearl barley, which is a key ingredient in my favourite soup: Chicken & Pearly Barley

Baby spinach is available again, supply is back to normal.

It seems like it has been forever since we had Green kiwi fruit. The Green and Gold are both available now!

Baby spinach continues to be in short supply, probably for another week. Bunched spinach still the best option. We also sell silverbeet, and Rainbow silverbeet.

The Shepard avocado variety are nearing the end of the season, so time to go back to the Hass.

Gold kiwi fruit is one of my favourite all time fruits. They haven’t been available for about six months, but now are back in season, and a good size.

Hass avocado are also back, I will keep the Sheperd variety on the online store for another week or so.

Turnips and swedes are also available, so if you are a soup maker plenty of soup vegetables to choose from.

New season Pink Lady apples have finally landed in the Market. All apple varieties are now new season: Pink Lady, Royal Gala, Jazz and Granny Smith.

We are launching our Melbourne wide delivery service next week with deliveries scheduled for Wednesday 28th and Friday 30th April (Order cut-off is 7pm Monday for Wednesday delivery, 7pm Wednesday for Friday delivery).

I know they’re not everyone’s favourites, but Baby Brussels sprouts are back in season!

Seems like people either really love them, or really don’t.

Deliveries as usual this coming week, but no deliveries the week after (Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th & Thursday 8th April).

Over the last couple of weeks, the quality of the Australian grown Valencia oranges has deteriorated. I will still offer them for sale, probably more suitable for juicing rather than eating.

The Australian Navel variety usually starts about May each year, so still about a month away.
