Micky Booth Fruit and Vegetable Home Delivery Melbourne

Fresh from the market to your door

Hass Avocados are available again after a short break

May 4, 2025

The Hass Avocado is available again after a brief interruption to supply.

Definitely the best of the avocado varieties when it comes to flavour and being able to determine when it is ready to eat.

The Shepard variety are a bit watery, and if you eat them before they are ready, are also rubbery.

Welcome back HASS AVO!

Our medium Salsa is also available again.

Have a great week,

Cheers,

Michael

Deliveries back to normal this week; Navel Oranges are available

April 26, 2025

Well, it’s been an interesting last few weeks with all the long weekends.

Deliveries as usual this coming week.

Blueberries are in very short supply, so I’ve taken them off the online store as what is available is of poor quality.

All of the apple varieties are new season.

Australian grown Navel oranges are also now available.

It’s a great time for citrus: mandarins, navel oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit are available.

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Michael

Deliveries as usual this week; Mandarins are available

April 13, 2025

Deliveries as usual once again this coming week.

The following week is bookended by Public Holidays, so no deliveries between Easter Monday and Anzac Day.

New season mandarins have started; Red seedless grapes are a better option than the green ones.

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Michael

Delivery Schedule: School Holidays and Easter

March 30, 2025

It’s a late Easter this year, just after the school holidays and just before Anzac Day which creates some interesting delivery scenarios.

So, deliveries as usual this coming week, but no deliveries the following week as it is the first week of the school holidays.

The week after, back to normal, deliveries as usual (even though the Friday that week is Good Friday, I will be delivering on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th April.

The week after that there will be no deliveries as Monday 21st April is Easter Monday, and the Friday is Anzac Day.

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Michael

New Season Gala Apples are available

March 23, 2025

New season Royal Gala Apples are now available.

The Royal Gala are always the first of the new season apples to be picked.

Pink Lady apples and the Granny Smith variety are late season varieties because they are a sharper apple (not as sweet). The old season Pink Lady and Granny Smith are still very crisp, as they store better because they contain less sugar.

Please note: If left in the fruit bowl, the new season Royal Gala can become flowery within a few days because of their high sugar content, so best to keep them in the fridge.

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Michael

Figs are available; Shepard Avocado replace the Hass

March 16, 2025

Figs are now in season, available in 300g punnets (about 6 figs). It’s a short season, so they won’t be available for long.

Hass Avocado have finished, replaced by the smooth skinned Shepard variety. Hass are by far the best and most popular avocado, but when they are unavailable, there is no option other than offer the Shepard variety.

Keep them out of the fridge, as they won’t ripen in there. They have to be quite soft to touch before they are ripe enough to eat. If you cut them too early, they are rubbery and not full flavoured.

Nectarines have finished for the season, peaches and plums are still available.

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Michael

Clingstone Peaches; William Pears; Choc Honeycomb

February 23, 2025

Clingstone peaches are a late variety of peach. They are called clingstone because the stone of the fruit doesn’t break away from the flesh of the fruit like other peaches. This week they are available in one kg portions (about 4 or 5 peaches).

William pears have been available for the last four weeks. They are a summer pear, and they ripen up very quickly (change colour from green to yellow).

Packham pears will start very soon, they take much longer to ripen.

Yes, it is confusing! Williams ripen quickly, Packham slowly.

Chocolate honeycomb is available in the pantry section again. Unfortunately there has been a world wide spike in the price of chocolate which affects small local chocolatiers much more than their global competitors.

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Michael

Locally Grown Pomegranates now available; Lots of recipe ideas for them

February 16, 2025

Locally grown pomegranates are back in season, they go great in a salad, plenty of recipes available online.

I googled “26 Pomegranate recipes” and guess what I came up with?

Also, a reminder that the fruit platters are prepared by a chef. I’ve taken the small one home a couple of times as a treat.

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Michael

Plums are the pick of the Stone Fruits; Apricots have finished

February 9, 2025

Plums are always at their best the first two months of the calendar year.

So, now is the best time for plums.

Peaches and nectarines are still available, but plums are the go to Summer fruit at the moment.

We took Apricots off last week, as it was getting difficult to source good quality ones.

Cherries haven’t long to go either, they are currently from Tasmania.

If you are a die hard cherry lover, it’s nearly game over!

Have a great week,

Cheers,

Michael

Passionfruit and Mangoes are in season; Eat Strawberries quickly

February 2, 2025

Passion Fruit is in season, and full of pulp.

Mangoes are also still around and are a good size.

Both fruits are this week’s recommendation!

Our locally grown strawberries are going to cop a bit of heat over the next few days, so if you order them this week, make sure you eat them quickly. The extreme heat stresses them and reduces their shelf life.

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Michael
